June 2005 Newsletter

Hi there all you fellow ATVer’s. It’s been awhile since I last wrote and there’s a good reason why. Over the past month or so, some of our members have been pretty busy making meetings, trials, adopt-a-highway cleanup and other functions. Some of us made it out to some of the DEC ATV Draft policy meetings. Many good things came out of these meetings and I would like to thank all those who came out to show their support. Some of our members were very impressive with the things they had to say to the DEC officials and now only time will tell if the DEC people listened and learned anything. We have as much rights to our tax funded State Lands as any other user. We are only looking to share these lands and we’re willing to work with all the other user groups in whatever way we possibly can.

Some of our members spent a damp day in Community Park clearing another section of trails. We had some pretty big beech trees down and needed the great help that we got. Thanks to those who came out and braved the elements to get about another mile of trails in our home base. We are still looking to get about another 1/2 mile cleared and then we will have a trail that borders all around the outside perimeter of the park.

The following day after our work detail in the park, some of our members again braved the elements to conduct our first chicken barbeque of the season. The many hands of help were greatly appreciated and a big special thank-you goes out to member Larry Rudd for once again cooking his delicious chicken. We couldn’t of done it without him.
Fourteen of our members got together one night to clean up the section of highway that we are responsible for. It only took about an hour and the sides of the roadway looked good. That evening turned out to be nice and we all had an enjoyable time walking and talking with each other, as we picked up the debris along Route 11. Afterwards we enjoyed a cookout at the home of Ralph and Patty Miller.

Our Brasher Falls weekend getaway on July 22nd through the 24th is now an official GO. Word has it the DEC has now opened the trails back up, as they had them closed due to the wet weather. Members should be calling the folks at the Riverside Campgrounds now to make their reservations. You can reach them at 389-4771.

Our membership renewal drive has now been under way and you should be getting your renewal into us as soon as possible. The deadline is soon approaching and if you haven’t gotten it back to us yet, you really need to or risk losing your membership in this fine organization. If you have any question, then please call our membership coordinator at 387-6396 after 5:00 pm or contact him via email at fabulous1@citlink.net.

We are finding it extremely hard to be able to accomplish all that needs to be done with only a hand full of members helping out. It seems that we are always getting the same folks and its time for some new blood to jump in and lend a helping hand. Some of us are looking to step down from our positions and are hoping that others will step in and take this club into the future. Think about it and I hope some will step up to the challenge.
