August Meeting:

Brasher Falls: Our July outing at Brasher Falls was a great success. Many members and non-members camped out and rode some beautiful trails. Many said that the trails were the best that they had ever been on. The weekend outing was full of rides, food and just getting to know one another. All had a good time. We would like to especially thank the folks at the Riverside Campgrounds for taking such good care of us all. And a special thanks goes out to the “Karaoke Man” who gave us a great time on Saturday evening. Due to his warming up of the crowd, many of our members got up to sing a song or two. Ask Ed McGrew the next time you see him, how good of a time he had.

On July 17th, we held our club’s monthly meeting near Nancy and Bear Fox’s campsite that overlooked the St. Regis River. President Ralph Miller called the meeting to order at 5:40 PM. There were 39 members present at this meeting. Faron Cronk read the minutes from the June meeting. JW made the motion to accept the minutes as read, with no amendments and Stan Miller seconded it. All those present were in favor.

    Ending Balance:                                                                   $  2,879.23

Pat Miller made the motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report as read and Debbie Bellinger seconded it. All those present were in favor.

Membership Report: 91 Memberships with 186 Members.

(28 memberships are still over due)

President Miller reminded us that on July 29th, we would be having our 2nd Adopt-a-Highway Clean-up Day. We would be meeting at his place around 5:30 PM. Those that show should bring work gloves and the club would provide the eats for that evening.

President Miller advised us that our Chicken BBQ is all set to go on the 1st of August. This will be taking place at Ontario Tire Garage on Route 11 in Sandy Creek. We will be charging $4.50 per half chicken, with salt potatoes 3 or 4 for $1. Flyers and advertisements will be posted throughout, to let folks know of our BBQ. President Miller figured that the club would need to spend about $250 for the expenses. A motion was made to authorize the spending of club monies for this expense by Penny Cronk.  Dean Clark seconded it and all those present were in favor.

Faron Cronk reminded us of the Pulaski Firemen’s Parade coming up on the 7th of August. We will be meeting at Dave Hall’s Lumberyard on Route 11 in Pulaski at 5:15 PM SHARP. Faron was also very vocal about the lack of members showing up for the parades. He said that he would rather see more folks at the parades than at any other outing. He advised us that 2 clubs get together for these parades, with a membership of about 500 members between the 2 clubs, and the best number of machines that the 2 clubs can show was 37. He also said that the parades are where you will find the Town Councilmen, County Legislatures, and the public’s eyes. He said that we need to make a better showing at the parades or we’re just hurting ourselves.

It was brought up at this meeting, of us changing our Brasher Falls Week-ender to a later date. This was due to our weekend at Brasher Falls seems to be conflicting with other events going on that we could participate in, like the Jefferson County Fair and other events. So it was decided that we would plan next year’s trip on July 22nd – 24th, 2005. Everyone should call the folks at the Riverside Campgrounds before then, but not until next year to help save any confusion or the folks losing your reservation over the winter. The number to call after May 1st, 2005 is (315) 389-4771.

Election of New Officers: The following people were nominated for positions on the Board and due to no one else volunteered to run against them, they accepted their positions:

Executive Director:

Ed McGrew         Phone: 315-387-6222      Email: 500ho@twcny.rr.com

Assistant Director:

        Mike Bellinger                 315-785-6811                 mgb702@yahoo.com

Secretary:

         Nancy Bouchard            315-387-2561        nancy_crawford@glic.com

Treasurer:

         Nancy Fox                     315-387-6346                   newf@tcenet.net

Three of the board positions are being filled by the same people that held onto them for the last 2 years. Those folks would still like to think that others would show an interest in the club and maybe step in and fill in those positions. These positions are only for 1 year and we hope others will step up and show an interest and fill one of these positions, either now or hopefully next year. These folks will be taking full control of our club at our next meeting on the 14th of August. An appreciation ovation was given to a few of our outgoing board members for the fine job that they had done for the club in the past. Some of them agreed to help the new board members with the transition and help out where needed.

Mike Bellinger brought up to us, the fact that we really need to start holding monthly regular meetings and for us to find a central location. We are going to look into the Adams area to see if we can find a business, legion, church or fire hall that we can hold our meeting at. If anyone has any ideas, please contact Mike and we will look into it and see what the possibilities are.

Discussion on Trailpass then took place. Many questions still seem to be unanswered as far as our cost and who is actually covered under Trailpass Policy. Faron advised us that there seems to be too many different stories he gets every time he talks to someone from Trailpass. As of their latest brochure, it will cost clubs $750 for the first 50 members and an additional $10 per member after that. When Trailpass first approached us, this was not going to cost the clubs anything and they (Trailpass) would benefit from the sale of Trail Passes. Also in their latest brochure, it seems that each club would have a $10,000 deductible for each claim placed on the insurance policy. It also is not clear as to whom this insurance policy is actually covering. Will it cover the landowner, club, trail only or whole parcels of land? And why can’t NYTRO, Inc. join as a “WHOLE” club, seeing how that’s what we are. Many questions still need answering, so we decided to table the Trailpass venture for another year.

Our next meeting / ride is scheduled for the 14th of August and the meeting place will be the home of one of our members, Dean Clark, in Evans Mills. This ride will get going at 10:00 AM SHARP and we will be riding into Clayton. Bring along something to eat and drink. We might, however, swing into some business for folks to get a bite to eat or take-out. Directions to Dean Clark’s place will be posted in our “Upcoming Events / Rides” section.

Motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:00 PM was made by Aretha Manchester and seconded by Debbie Bellinger. All those present were in favor.

It was getting close to our “Karaoke” time and folks like Ed McGew had to go back to their tents and “practice” their vocal cords for a long night of singing. Ed got the song “EARL” down pretty good. One could tell, that he had practiced extensively and put his heart into it. He knows that he needs to brush up on his Johnny Cash songs though.

Upcoming Events / Rides:

August 7th, 2004: Pulaski Fireman’s Field Days Parade.

We will be gathering at the business of Dave Hall’s lumberyard and sawmill at 5:15 PM SHARP. Polish all your chrome and be part of one of the biggest parades in the area. Safety is our main goal, so remember those beanie protectors. Directions to our gathering place are as follows:

Coming from the North: Take Route 11 south to Pulaski. Just as you get into the village limits, the Sawmill will be on your right. It is across the road from the Niagara Mohawk Station.

Coming from the South: Take Route 11 north to Pulaski. Go all the way through the village and as you start to come out of the village limits, the Sawmill will be on your left. If you go pass a cemetery on your right, you have gone to far.

August 14th, 2004: Our next meeting / ride will be held at the home of Dean Clark at 10:00 AM SHARP. We will be riding to Clayton and back, along a well maintained trail. Bring along your favorite food and beverage and enjoy the scenery and company of your fellow club members. Directions to Dean Clark’s place are as follows:

Coming from the North: Take Route 81 to Exit 48 (Fort Drum Exit). Turn left onto Route 342. Come to Stoplight and turn left onto Route 37. Go through the four corners in Pamelia and turn onto the first left (Kiser Road). Turn right onto Perch Lake Road and go to corners of Perch Lake Road and Pink School House Road. On the left at the corners will be a white ranch house and that is Dean Clark’s place.

Coming from the South: Take Route 81 to Exit 48 (Fort Drum Exit). Turn right onto Route 342. Come to Stoplight and turn left onto Route 37. Go through the four corners in Pamelia and turn onto the first left (Kiser Road). Turn right onto Perch Lake Road and go to corners of Perch Lake Road and Pink School House Road.
