New Officers!!!
At our August Meeting we held the elections for club officers. As you can see from the list above many changes have taken place for our great club! We are moving forward to the future with many people taking an active part in our club. We have accomplished many great things and I am sure that there will be many more things for the future! Remember the club is not the officers but the members who make it all happen. Take an active part and join us for our meetings, rides and other activities.

Club Rides!
We had several great club rides this season and now that hunting season is here, we will all have to ride with great caution and remember that many of our trails on private property are now closed.

The overnight ride to Brasher Falls was a great success with about 30 people attending. A good time was had by all and if you missed this trip you missed a great time! The campgrounds were great, located right on the river with much to do. Fishing, Canoeing, swimming, and the trails into the state forest left right out the back of the campground. The weather was perfect and even the meals were great (Thanks for feeding me Ralph, even at 6:00 A.M.)  Our ride planners are already planning for another trip to Brasher Falls for next year!

Adventure Tours (Polaris Tours) came to Lowville in the beginning of September for the scheduled ride, and I want to extend a great thanks to all the members who joined us to help guide them around the area. A Special thanks needs to go out to the folks from Waite Polaris. Not only did Barry Waite help in the guide aspect, but when a breakdown occurred out on the trail they went out of their way to get the rider to the shop, repaired and back on the trail the same day! The riding was very dusty but we endured, and can only hope for better conditions if we get the opportunity to do it again in the future.

Events
December 1st Watertown Christmas PARADE, Plans are in the works to be a part of the Watertown Christmas Parade. YES, Riding your ATV down State Street and around Public Square! We will hopefully have a float as well. There are still details to be worked out, and we need to know how many would like to take part in the parade, So if you would like to ride your ATV, help with a float or something else please contact Mike Bellinger at (315) 785-6811.

County Trail Grant
It is my pleasure to let everyone know that we have finally received the first installment from the county grant program toward the purchase of a tractor with a loader. We were one of only four groups in the county to be awarded funds from the program. The county is giving our club $4,950 toward the purchase of a tractor costing $6,800 or more. We will have a great piece of equipment at a minimal cost to our club. We are still looking at different pieces of machinery and when the directors have decided on a tractor, the purchase will be made so we will have it for next seasons trail work! There are a couple of conditions we must meet to go along with the funding. Our club has to file for a “Temporary Revocable Permit” for use of the Counties Felts Mills Properties. Our club will be responsible for marking the trails and keeping them maintained. They are some nice trails on about 300 Acres of County lands that connect to the Railroad bed trail along State Route 3 The signs are already made and sitting in my garage.

Safety, Education & Conservation!

FREE MONEY???

ATV Safety Classes!
ATV Safety Classes are now available in our area! Most people do not realize that these classes are not only available, but also free for most people. If you have purchased a new ATV in the past and NOT taken advantage of the program you are still eligible to take a Safety Class. Depending on the brand of machine you purchased, up to three people in your household are eligible to take the class for free! Many people are also eligible to get a cash rebate from the manufacturer for taking the class, Manufacturer’s cash back range from $50 to $100 depending on the brand of machine you purchased and when you made your purchase. It does not matter when you made the purchase, last week or 10 years ago, you are eligible for the cash rebate if you have never received one for that particular machine just for taking the class. It is also important to note that anyone not holding a current legal drivers license are mandated by state law to participate in a state approved ATV Safety class. The Program offered by the ATV Safety Institute and sponsored by the manufacturers is also the same program mandated by New York State. Ride smart and sign up for a class today! To sign you or family members up for an upcoming ATV Safety class call Enrollment Express at 1-800-887-2887. Make sure you have your ATV vehicle identification number ready as well. For more information on the ATV Safety program and the requirements you can also call David Beyer at (315) 782-5280. Upcoming classes are scheduled for Watertown on October 19th and 20th, sign up early as space is limited. If there are enough people interested more classes will be scheduled at sites both in Watertown and Lowville.

Fund Raising!
The Raffle for the ATV from the State Association is fast drawing to a close. It is important that those who still have tickets to get them sold and have the ticket stubs and money back to me by October 15th at the latest, so I can get them sent on to NYSORVA for the Scheduled drawing. If you have money and stubs please get them to one of the officers, or call one of us and we will get by to pick them up. Remember we keep half of all the money from the tickets for our club, so this is a very important raffle for us as well.

Town Board Meetings!
We are working forward with several towns at this point. We have not given up on the town of Ellisburg. We currently have requests in to the town of Lowville and the town of Rutland, and are working on one for the town of Harrisburg at this time. We will make requests to any towns that we have members in that area willing to attend the meetings and work to see the requests through.

The next meeting for the Town of Ellisburg is October 3rd, If you can attend please arrive by 7:45 P.M. and make your voice heard.

ATV Adventures!
David Beyer, a member of our club has started a guide service for ATV rides in the Tri-County region! As problems with insurance are worked out, there will also be ATV’s offered for rent as part of guide packages. As many of you know the insurance market has been trouble since the events of 9/11/01 and that also has affected small businesses and local government. This is a new business with services being offered in the Tri-County region. When the rental machines become available this will be a great way to get groups of friends, family, or co-workers out for a great fun filled day! If you are not familiar with the riding in a region the services may also be a great way to find and get familiar with the area’s that best suit your preferred type of riding! For more information you can contact ATV Adventures at (315) 782-5280

The Corner!
