Meetings: Our meeting scheduled for March was postponed due to bad weather and was rescheduled for Thursday March 28th at the Home of Ralph and Pat Miller on Sand Place road in the town of Mannsville. Since we have not yet meet as of this newsletter, I will get the word out about the date and location for our next meeting once it has been set.

Grant: Our grant committee completed the grant request for funds from the 2002 Jefferson County Trail Improvement Grant Program. We turned it in prior to the March 22nd deadline and now are just waiting to get a response from the County in regards of the funding. Our request for money needed to help us purchase a used tractor with loader that will help us in trail maintenance and construction. We will not be able to determine what tractor we will purchase until we know if we have the funding, but we have begun looking at machines that are available. If you know of a tractor with loader that is for sale please let us know.

Club Member Rides!!! May 18th Our first official club ride is set! We will be riding from Clayton to Redwood along sections of the Rivergate trail and private trails. We will be parking at the Frink Parking lot in Clayton where we will leave at 10:00 on our ride to Redwood. All members interested in attending this ride should contact me at 92vmax@imcnet.net or call me at (315) 782-5280. We would like to have a rough idea of how many from our club will be attending as the Redwood Fire Department will be offering Hot Dogs and Hamburgers for sale at the middle of our ride. The scenery will be great along the trip as we have great trails to travel. We will be passing along sections of rivers and lakes as well as rock cuts and just great riding. If you have never made the ride from Clayton to Redwood, this would be a great opportunity, come out and join us for a day of fun and good company as we will be riding along with members of the Rivergate Wheelers club as well!

Great News! We now have a legal safe route to cross the Black river! With the cooperation of the village of Black river, and the work of the Black River Valley Wheelers ATV Club we can ride through the village. The village passed a law allowing us to travel on three streets that connect the railroad bed with the opposite side of the village. There will be signs erected so watch for them. We can succeed when we do not give up, and present a good case, as well as offer to do all we can to cooperate and make sure things are safe for all!

A Word of Thanks!  We want to thank the Ridgeview Motor Lodge for the use of it’s grounds for the ATV Safety Institute Instructor class that is going to be held on April 4th thru the 7th. This class is very important as it is the first time we have been able to have a chief instructor come to this region to teach. It will give us many more certified ATV safety instructors in this Northern Region, Something that is very important to the safe and responsible use of machines and a help for the future of our form of recreation!

Oswego County Planning Department: We still need to keep on top of all issues that can help us in the future. As the issue of the Railroad Beds in Oswego County have not been decided yet lets not drop the ball. We still can continue to make an effort to show that we want this for multi-use trails. We still need members to stand up, make phone calls and write letters! Please take the time to drop a line to County Planning department at:

Oswego County Planning Department

Letters are our best forms of support for the development of trails so please take a moment to write a few lines in support of ATV, Snowmobile and multi use trails. It affects the future of your chosen form of recreation, please don’t rely on others to do it for you. Now is the time to speak up and let your legislators know your feelings!
